  3. Super!! What a history! So many great concerts I saw in ‘Netwerk’ and ‘Roxy’; that period was definitely determinant for the rest of my life…
Touring the US, the crazyness of the old days is a bit gone but the ‘old buggers’ are still there at every concert…

  4. I remember a lot of great concerts (‘Bambix’, ‘Problem Children’, ‘Verbal Assault’, ‘Spermbirds’, ‘Peeters & Angst’, ‘Vernon Walters, etc. etc.) but also those of the bands from Aalst (‘Rough Justice’, ‘Violent Mosquitos’) were often highlights.

  5. Wow, if one looks back at the list…goose-bumps. According to me Smurfpunx quit at a turning-point when, in the early 90s, there came an abundance of touring (copy)bands and the ‘big guys’ started to get involved because there was a decent buck to be made. On the other hand the gap was beautifully closed by the Vort’n Vis in Ieper who wellcomed a whole bunch of great bands between 1991 & 1995 [see: ‘Concerts * POST Smurfpunx’]. Because the ‘Vis’ was closer to my former home, it became my second home during that period. After 1995, for me personally, things were over: I started to see/hear too many (copy)bands and it became a bit too ‘pro’ plus I understood that after a diet of hardcore only, I had missed a whole bunch other “alternative/underground” things. But then again: this kind of lists give the word lijsten ‘midlife-crisis’ a new dimension.

  6. About the end of Smurfpunx… Your more or less right. There was at least one concert that I didn’t want to help organise because the bands were ‘too big’. I wanted to keep things small, go back to the roots and didn’t want to work with commercial promoters. That festival March ’91 with Belgian bands only was my initiative, trying to give local bands more of a chance. But it was fighting a lost battle… The crowds were spoiled/jaded, turn-outs became poorer and money became a problem… I went on to collobarate with the V.V. an started helping/organising there…
